Installing the GotZuk Door Straps

By Megs Howard

My Dad cut the door hinges on his Samurai so he could make them easy to slide on and off. But one of the problems he was always grumbling about was the original door strap that keeps the door from swinging open too far. Even though he could slip the doors off the hinges now he still had to unscrew the screws holding the straps to the door. And if he left the straps off, the wind would catch the doors every once in a while and blow them open too far and almost break the hinges. So he bought a set of GotZuk quick disconnect door straps and asked me to put them on for him. Since I like to help him work out in the shop, I told him "Sure! Sounds like fun!"

The new door straps arrived ready to install. The only tool I needed for this job was a phillips head screwdriver. It only took me 15 mintues to install these.

Here's what you get in the box. 2 sets of door straps made up of nylon straps and quick disconnect buckles.

Here is a picture of the stock door straps before I removed them. Hang on to the metal reinforcing plates you see on each end of the rubber strap. I reused these when I put the new GotZuk door straps on (see below).

Here I am removing the stock door straps. Just 4 screws holding each one on. And they weren't in there that tight either.
This is what the stock door straps look like after you take them off and pull them apart. There is a metal top plate at each end and a metal bottom plate on the end that attaches to the body. I reused these with the new GotZuk door straps.
TAA-DAAA!!
This is what they look like after being installed. Now when my dad wants to take his doors off he can just unbuckle this strap and slid the door off the cut hinges.
